Industrialists oppose 25% rise in rail tariffs, call Ukrzaliznytsia to improve efficiency, fight against corruption
Industrial enterprises and associations are categorically against the next rise in rail freight tariffs in 2017 by 25%, considering it expedient to improve the efficiency of work of Ukrzaliznytsia, fight against corruption and pervasive theft on the railways.
The head of the Verkhovna Rada committee on industrial policy and entrepreneurship, Viktor Halasiuk during the round table entitled "The impact of tariff policy on industry and the economy" said that Ukrzaliznytsia must show its effective operation but the ability to raise tariffs.
"If you are such a team of highly qualified professionals, then work for the economy of Ukraine. Show the results," he said.
During their speeches, industrialists and MPs criticized the leadership of Ukrzaliznytsia, inter alia, for the non-transparency of setting tariffs, as well as the intention to raise rates rather than optimize its costs and improve the efficiency of railways' operations.
