Social Policy Ministry: Average housing payment in Ukraine equal to half of wage, 6.5 mln families get subsidies
The Ministry of Social Policy estimates the average tariff for housing and utilities services in Ukraine at about 50% of wages, while about 6.5 million families received housing subsidies.
According to the ministry's press service, new tariffs for central heating and hot water supply services for public needs in Ukraine came into force on July 1, and they almost doubled.
According to preliminary calculations, the average housing payment in Ukraine amounts to about 50% of wage.
"That's too much. We had to reduce it for consumers through subsidies. We were instructed to give subsidies to all those who asked for them. Therefore we maximally simplified the system of providing subsidies. And now the figure of subsidies is high enough," Minister of Social Policy Andriy Reva said.
About 6.5 million families receive subsidies, and by the end of the heating season their number could rise to 8.5 million.
