IMF waiting for prosecution of corrupt high-level officials
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is waiting for decisive steps particularly need to be taken to fight corruption from the Ukrainian authorities, including prosecuting and convicting corrupt high-level officials, the mission of the IMF said after visiting Kyiv in the period from November 3 through November 17.
"While there has been progress in setting up new institutions, including the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, and the publication of high-level officials’ asset declarations was a major step, tangible results in prosecuting and convicting corrupt high-level officials and recovering proceeds from corruption have yet to be achieved," the document reads.
In addition, the IMF mission underlined the importance of preserving by the country's leadership of unity in the efforts to continue reforms, resist populism and overcome the resistance of the defenders of vested interests.
