Ukrtransgaz head predicts end of gas pumping to underground storage in coming days
The end of pumping gas to underground gas storage facilities and the start of gas pumping from them is scheduled for October 12 or October 13, Head of Ukrtransgaz Ihor Prokopiv has said.
He said that in the morning on October 12 some 14.718 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas was stored in the Ukrainian inventories, and current gas consumption in the country is 74.4 million cubic meters.
"If today or tomorrow the heat generating companies start generating heat, and they will start doing this because average temperature is lower than 8 centigrade, it would be more than 100 million cubic meters [for consumption]. This means that no gas was pumped into the inventories," he told reported in Kyiv on Wednesday.
Prokopiv said that Ukraine will begin the 2016/16 heating season with gas stocks of 14.8 bcm.
He said that the company presented a road map to Naftogaz Ukrainy. Ukraine's needs in daily imports until March 1, 2017 are to be 40-42 million cubic meters, and only from March 1 the need will fall to 27 million cubic meters.
