Containment structure installation over Chornobyl reactor four to start on Nov 3
The installation of the containment structure over reactor four of Chornobyl nuclear power plant (NPP) will start on November 3, Ukrainian Ecology and Natural Resources Minister Ostap Semerak has said.
"I spent the whole day in the Exclusion zone. I wanted to see at firsthand how the preparation for installing the containment structure that will begin on November 3 is moving. The works are being carried out well and will finish in the scheduled time," Semerak said on Facebook.
He said that thanks to the unique technology to build the walls of reactor four the containment structure would be joined with the reactor absolutely leak tight.
The minister said that he held a meeting in the Exclusion zone. The functioning of two plants to dispose liquid and solid radioactive waste was discussed.
"Technologies are modern and the enterprises are to be launched. The issue of burring waste arises, and specialists have several concepts here. We will discuss them and approve by the end of this year," Semerak said.
