Ukraine suspends gas imports from Poland over gas pipeline leak; repairs underway
Ukraine has halted imports of natural gas from Poland due to a leak on a pipeline in Lviv region, Ukrtransgaz spokesman Maksym Beliavsky told Interfax-Ukraine.
"In Lviv region, depressurization of the 800-mm trunk gas pipeline has temporarily halted gas imports from Poland. Repair work is underway," he said.
Ukraine has capacity for reverse pipeline imports of gas from Poland equal to 4.3 million cubic meters (mcm) a day. Ukraine imported 28.4 mcm of gas from Poland in the first seven days of September.
Ukrtransgaz, a 100% subsidiary of Naftogaz Ukrainy, operates Ukraine's trunk gas pipeline system, as well as its 12 underground storage facilities with capacity for 31 billion cubic meters.
