Terms for creating new ammunition production facilities in cooperation with western allies depend on financing

The creation of new ammunition production facilities in Ukraine to replace facilities lost on the territory of Donbas in cooperation with western allies is hindered by the restricted resource of the country's defense budget, Ukroboronprom State Concern Head Roman Romanov has told Interfax-Ukraine.

Commenting on the course of the implementation of plans of cooperation with western partners in the project to build a new ammunition facility to replace Luhansk Ammunition Factory and Donetsk Plant of Chemical Products lost due to hostilities presented after a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Commission in June in Brussels, Romanov said that in 2015 the concern worked hard on the issue.

Ukroboronprom held negotiations on cooperation with leading western manufacturers.

"Over 10 options for organizing new production have been designed and submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers," Romanov said, adding that the terms of their implementation depend on financing.

"The key issue is the absence of financing. Unfortunately, we have the restricted resource [of the defense budget]. If the financing is provided the new production facility could be created within one year," he said.

According to information earlier announced by Ukroboronprom, among possible partners in the project on the creation of a new ammunition production facility is U.S. ATK.

Created by the presidential decree in December 2010, Ukroboronprom, according to the law adopted by the parliament in June 2011, together with the government ensures the management of state property objects in the defense industry.
