Ukraine has assumed presidency for the Permanent Commission of the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL), the press service of the Infrastructure Ministry of Ukraine has reported.
The decision was made at a meeting of all members of the organization on June 32, 2016 in Brussels where Deputy Infrastructure Minister Viktor Dovhan presented Ukraine.
He said that the decision is important for Ukraine.
"EUROCONTROL would help us to strengthen control over airspace, including, over such troubled regions as Crimea and eastern Ukraine," he said.
He expressed hope that this step would step up the signing of the Single Sky agreements with the EU.
Ukraine will chair two meetings during one year.
Ukraine has been member of EUROCONTROL since 2004.
