Odesa port cuts cargo handling by 2.5% in first five months
Odesa seaport in January-May 2016 handled 10.242 million tonnes of cargo, 2.5% down year-over-year.
During the reporting period the port increased handling of exported cargo by 15.3%, to 8.129 million tonnes, imported goods by 31.2%, to 1.338 million tonnes, with transit cut by about 67%, to 763,000 tonnes, the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority reported. The port handled only 13,000 tonnes of cabotage goods in the first five months of 2016.
Transshipment of liquid cargo decreased by 60%, to 786,000 tonnes, packaged goods increased by 18.4%, to 5.59 million tonnes, dry cargo climbed by 2.1%, to 3.868 million tonnes.
Odesa port is located on an area of 109.5 hectares.
The port accepts vessels with lengths of up to 270 meters and maximum draughts of 13 meters. The total length of the port's berths exceeds eight kilometers.
