Protective arch should be placed over destroyed Chornobyl power unit by mid-November - Ukrainian environment minister
Efforts to complete the construction of an arch-shaped protective structure and place it over the destroyed fourth power generating unit of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant (NPP) are proceeding according to schedule, Ukrainian Ecology and National Resources Minister Ostap Semerak said on his Facebook page.
"I hope we will complete the process of its [the arch's] placement in 168 days [by the middle of November]," he said.
Donor countries have transferred money to an account at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in order to finish the construction of a spent nuclear fuel storage facility at the Chornobyl NPP, including EUR 1.4 million from Ukraine, the minister said.
