Ukraine seeks to stop importing gas by 2020 – energy minister
Ukraine seeks to completely stop importing gas thanks to boosting production, introducing energy efficiency and energy saving measures in 2016-2020, Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Ihor Nasalyk has said.
"In five years – from 2016 through 2020 – we would be able to pass to the position of halting imports of gas from territories of other states. I am convinced in this," he said at the Energy Spring 2016 congress in Kyiv on Thursday.
The minister anticipates that the measures introduced and proposed by the ministry would allow boosting gas production by 7-7.5 bln a year over this period.
