Rada passes bill increasing scrap exports duty from EUR 10 to EUR 30 per tonne for three years
The Verkhovna Rada on April 21 passed at second reading bill No. 3868 amending some Ukrainian laws on reducing the shortage of scrap ferrous metal on the domestic market. The document aims at providing for the needs of defense industry and restoration of infrastructure.
The document increases export duties for scrap ferrous metals temporarily for three years from EUR 10 per tonne from EUR 30 per tonne.
A total of 268 lawmakers backed the bill.
The amendment to cut the duty to EUR 25 was not passed.
Chairman of the parliamentary committee for the industrial policy and entrepreneurship Viktor Halasiuk said that currently the provision of metal companies with scrap is not the sector issue, but the issue of Ukraine's national security.
