Cabinet appoints Ihor Smiliansky head of Ukrposhta
The Cabinet of Ministers has appointed Ihor Smiliansky, a manager of the U.S. office of KPMG, chairman of the board of Ukrainian postal services state enterprise Ukrposhta.
Smiliansky said at a government meeting in Kyiv, when presenting the plans on the development of the company strategy, that Ukrposhta could become the platform from which e-commerce business [online trade] may grow.
"Different countries solve the issue of strategy in different ways. Unfortunately, around the world postal agencies are going through a crisis period, because the volume of mail is falling, except for packages sent in the segment of e-commerce. And Ukrposhta could become the platform from which this business will develop," the official said.
In addition, he said he plans to expand financial services through the creation of the Postal Bank and use these funds for financing small and medium business that may grow on the Ukrposhta platform.
