Milk processing in Ukraine in 2015 lowest in 20 years
Milk processing in 2015 was slightly over 4.2 million tonnes (4.5 million tonnes in 2014), Board Chairman of the Union of Dairy Enterprises of Ukraine Vadym Chaharovsky said at a press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday.
He said that this is the lowest figure in the past 20 years.
Some 2.5 million tonnes of milk was made by industrial companies and 1.7 million tonnes by households.
In general, dairy product output fell by 9.2%, to some 1.37 million tonnes.
A slight decline in exports was seen: 200,000 tonnes of Ukrainian dairy products were exported. In money terms exports decreased by $100 million.
If earlier Ukraine exported cheese and products to Russia, now the range of products is different: non-perishable food (powder milk, powder whey), which are cheaper compared to cheese.
The price of raw milk grew by 25% in hryvnias in 2015. Wholesale prices rose by 21-25% and retail prices by 31-35%.
