Govt provides for financing of coal purchases, settling payments on energy market – Yatseniuk
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has financed purchase of coal for thermal power plants and power outages can be only due to damage to power lines, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has said.
"The government has provided for financing coal purchases and settling payments on the energy market, and blackouts could occur only in those settlements where power lines are damaged due to bad weather," he said on the "Ten minutes with the prime minister" TV program on Sunday night.
He said that he instructed at a meeting of the response center of the State Emergencies Commission that each head of the region, district and city monitor the issue.
"At the current stage we have enough coal stocks. Everything depends on supplies of coal to Ukrainian power plants," Yatseniuk said.
The prime minister said that the government has managed to secure supplies of nuclear fuel to National Nuclear Generating Company Energoatom via diversification of supplies.
"If earlier we fully depended on Russia, today we buy a part of nuclear fuel from U.S. Westinghouse," he said.
