Cabinet decree on emergency energy measures would allow to cut use of scarce anthracite coal - Ukrenergo
The Cabinet of Ministers' making the decision on emergency measures in the energy sector would allow to reduce the use of scarce anthracite coal, Acting Director of Ukrenergo Vsevolod Kovalchuk has said.
"This resolution enables us to further reduce the load on power plants using anthracite coal," he said at a press conference in Kyiv.
The Ukrenergo head noted that the existing rule of the wholesale electricity market does not allow to redistribute the load between the thermal power plants using G and A grade coal.
Kovalchuk added that the Ukrainian market suffers a shortage of A grade coal, which became more apparent during the disconnection of Crimean power grids. However, the overall situation is much better than last year.
"We do not need to import electricity from Russia. We have a surplus of power," he added.
