Energy minister: gas stocks in Ukraine enough to pass heating season without Russian gas
Ukraine has just about enough natural gas stocks accumulated in its underground storage facilities to pass the 2015/16 heating season, and gas will also be supplied from the European Union (EU), Energy and Coal Industry Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Demchyshyn has said.
"This volume [in underground storage facilities] is enough, in general, to pass this heating season with supplies from the EU. [Ukraine] does not depend on Russia's gas supplies at present," he said in the parliament on Friday.
Public joint company Ukrtransgaz said that as of November 25, 2015, 16.451 billion cubic meters of gas was stored in the country's underground storage facilities, while at the beginning of the season of gas pumping from the facilities in late October, 17.064 billion cubic meters was stored.
