Parliament exempts electric cars from imports duty
Ukraine's parliament has exempted vehicles with electric engines from imports duty.
A total of 233 lawmakers passed bill No. 1674 at second reading
The exemption from imports duty for trolleybuses, bicycles (with an auxiliary electric engine of no more than 250 kW), vehicles designed to carry radioactive elements and vehicles used at warehouses, plants, ports and airports was removed from the document for second reading under the recommendation of the profile parliamentary committee.
The amendments were made as Ukraine has sufficient facilities to produce trolleybuses, which are not currently loaded. Amendments to the Ukrainian goods classification code for foreign trade were made to avoid imports duty for cars with hybrid engines being exempted.
At present, the imports duty on vehicles with electric engines is 8% (beneficial) and 10% (full).
The parliament failed to pass at second reading the bill which temporarily exempts vehicles with electric engines from paying value added tax (VAT).
