Ukraine in talks on purchasing uranium concentrate in Kazakhstan, Australia - Demchyshyn
Ukraine is engaged in talks with Kazakhstan and Australia on purchasing natural uranium concentrate, Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Volodymyr Demchyshyn has said.
"During our stay in Kazakhstan we held very fruitful talks. There is an understanding that Kazakhstan is ready to supply uranium concentrate under quite favorable conditions. Australia is the second potential supplier. We are trying to diversify supplies and are therefore carrying out such work," he said at a press conference in Kyiv.
The annual need of Ukrainian nuclear power plants for uranium concentrate is about 2,400 tonnes, while internal production by state enterprise VostGOK for 2015 is expected to reach 1,200 tonnes.
