A loan of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for Ukraine to pay for gas in the amount of $300 million will definitely be granted, the EBRD has said.
"There is a reason to believe that nothing will go wrong because the loan has been approved by the bank's board of directors," EBRD Managing Director for Eastern Europe and the Caucasus Francis Malige said at a press conference in Minsk.
Malige also noted that "the matter is not only that Ukraine needs money, the country also needs to improve corporate governance, which is one of the requirements for granting the loan," the banker said.
Earlier, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk said that the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine had jeopardized Naftogaz Ukrainy's chance of getting $300 million loan from the EBRD.
