Russia to impose food embargo against Ukraine on Jan 1 if agreement on Ukraine-EU FTZ not signed

The food embargo of Russia against Ukraine will come into force on January 1, 2016, if Moscow does not manage to agree with its partners upon amendments to an agreement on the free trade zone (FTZ) between Ukraine and the EU, which would remove risks for Russia, Russian Economic Development Minister Alexei Ulyukayev said.

"A legally binding agreement by the three parties should be adopted, either as some sort of amendment to the agreement on the Ukraine-EU free trade zone, or as a separate document in which the legally binding removal of our risks is signed, which is connected to technical regulatory, veterinary and phytosanitary control, with customs regulations, with the danger of an uncontrollable flow of goods from third countries through Ukraine to us," Ulyukayev told journalists on Monday.
