Poroshenko, Lagarde discuss cooperation between Ukraine, IMF
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde discussed cooperation between Ukraine and the IMF during a telephone call on Friday.
Poroshenko briefed Lagarde about the implementation of banking, tax, judicial and decentralization reforms in Ukraine, the Ukrainian president's press service reported.
Lagarde praised Ukrainian authorities' progress in carrying out reforms and emphasized the personal role of the president.
Poroshenko and Lagarde also condemned "unjustified populism which can be frequently heard from Ukrainian politicians in the Verkhovna Rada", the Ukrainian president's press reported.
For its part, the press service of the IMF said that during the telephone conversation, Lagarde stressed the need for continued support for agreed reform and for preventing delays or policy reversals.
