Yatseniuk voices key conditions for land reform success
Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has said he is not against the opening of the land market, but only if certain conditions are met.
"I've always acted with the following parameters: the first one - the owners of Ukrainian land should be citizens of Ukraine, the second issue - the restriction of land ownership per person to avoid appearance of land oligarchs, the third point - the minimum price of land, the fourth one - the ability to sell this land to the state for this minimum price that will correspond with the market one and the real value of land," he said in an interview with Novoye Vremia weekly.
According to Yatseniuk, the coalition agreement provides for a ban on land sales.
He expressed doubt about whether the incumbent parliament would vote to open the land market.
"There will be a shout now, before the election, plus here it is important to make not just a classic commodity. Land is not a conventional commodity," Yatseniuk said.
He also believes that transparent conditions of land leasing will be crucial.
