Ukraine could import required amount of gas to prepare for winter from EU - expert
Ukraine could import the required amount of gas to prepare for winter from the EU, Business Development Director at Naftogaz Ukrainy Yuriy Vitrenko has said.
"We will manage [to import enough gas from the EU to prepare for winter]… We could [import from the EU] 50-60 million cubic meters a day. The issue of the required volume of gas [to underground storage facilities] is still open," he wrote on his Facebook page.
Vitrenko said that the low use by Ukraine of the capacities for gas supplies from Europe is currently dictated by Naftogaz's commercial tactic.
Vice President of the European Commission for Energy Union Maros Sefcovic said at a press conference that Ukraine requires 19 billion cubic meters in underground storage facilities by winter. He said that the reverse supply capacity is enough to form the stocks.
As reported, the Ukraine-EU-Russia trilateral gas talks held on June 30 in Vienna brought no result. Naftogaz Ukrainy said that the holding suspended gas purchases from Russia on July 1.
