Ukrainians sell $174 mln more currency than bought in June - NBU
The sale of foreign currency by the public in June, excluding the last day of the month, exceeded purchases by $174 million, which almost corresponds to the figure of May - $177 million, director of the public markets department at the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), Serhiy Ponomarenko, has said.
"Banks through cash desks bought $214 million from the population and sold $40 million, the balance is $174 million," he said at a press conference in Kyiv.
As reported, in May the population bought $207.3 million, sold $30 million, and in general in January-May net sales were $619 million, while in 2010-2014 net foreign currency purchases by the population were $39 billion.
Ponomarenko also noted that the forex supply in the interbank currency market in recent times exceeded demand, which led to the formation of excess and allowed the NBU to buy $240 million on the market in June, and on July 1 a record high purchase of $100 million could be fixed.
