Novak: Russia seeks to obligate Ukraine to replenish gas inventories
Moscow is proposing that the new package of gas agreements that might be signed following a trilateral meeting between Russia, Ukraine and the European Commission include the stipulation that Ukraine must purchase gas for injection into underground storage facilities and that the EU provide financing for that purpose.
"We would want this document to stipulate gas purchases by Ukraine, injection into underground storage, the volumes and the obligations of the European side, which would assume responsibility to provide financial assistance, because, you understand, there [in Ukraine] there is a problem now with money to pay for gas to inject into underground storage facilities," Energy Minister Alexander Novak said on Wednesday in Vienna, BBC reported.
The meeting will most likely be held after June 20.
