EU allocates EUR 10.6 mln for preparations for Lithuania-Poland gas pipeline
The European Union has allocated EUR 10.6 million in assistance to finance preparatory work for laying a gas pipeline between Poland and Lithuania, Lithuanian gas transmission company Amber Grid said through Vilnius stock exchange Nasdaq Omx.
Amber Grid and its Polish counterpart, Gaz-System, as well as the Innovation & Networks Executive Agency (INEA) signed a trilateral agreement on Wednesday.
The money will be allocated under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).
It was reported earlier that Amber Grid is investing about EUR 136.121 million in the project to build the gas pipeline between Lithuania and Poland, which it is implementing jointly with Gaz-System. Construction was expected to begin in 2016 and be completed by 2018.
The pipeline is expected to facilitate the Baltic nations' integration into EU gas markets and give them access to the world liquefied natural gas market through the Swinoujscei LNG terminal in Poland.
