Poroshenko expresses hope 1st tranche of IMF loan arrives in March
President Petro Poroshenko has expressed confidence that the International Monetary Fund will approve a loan that Ukraine is seeking from it and that the first tranche of the loan will be released before the end of March, the president's office said.
"This money will make it possible to replenish the reserves of the National Bank, gradually stabilize the hryvnia, and pave the way for international loans that will give an impetus to economic growth," the office said in a statement.
"A positive vote in the Verkhovna Rada [parliament] for laws that would pave the way for an IMF decision in support of Ukraine should become the first positive signal to the market," the statement quoted Poroshenko as saying.
