Foreign parliaments could promote Ukraine reform - French Senate president
French Senate President Gerard Larcher expects the parliaments of the Normandy Quartet member-states (France, Germany, Russia, Ukraine) to promote constitutional reform in Ukraine, including the decentralization of its system of governance.
It was reported earlier that an agreement on conducting such a reform had been reached in Minsk on February 12.
"It seems very important to us to leave channels for inter-parliamentary cooperation," Larcher said at a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Wednesday.
The parliaments of the four countries should actively assist reforms in Ukraine, he said.
"It could possibly be useful if our parliaments could help Ukraine take into consideration what is decentralization, as it is understood in France," he said.
"It is our wish that the four parliaments should actively promote this," he said.
Larcher also mentioned the importance of common efforts in combating terrorism.
