Hryvnia devaluation in 2014 entails fall in FDI in Ukraine of 19.5% - statistics

Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Ukraine in the form of share capital at the end of 2014 amounted to $45.92 billion, which is $11.14 billion, or 19.5% less than at the beginning of the year, the State Statistics Service has said.

The State Statistics Service reported that non-residents invested $2.45 billion last year and at the same time withdrew $1.17 billion, however the negative exchange rate difference was $12.25 billion.

Taking into account previously disclosed data for the nine months, in the fourth quarter non-residents invested $540 million, and withdrew $280 million, however the negative exchange rate difference was $2.84 billion.

A quarter earlier the volume of investment was $610 million, funds withdrawal - $230 million, the negative exchange rate difference amounted to $1.97 billion.

The service also said that the share of investment from Cyprus in 2014 decreased from 33.3% to 29.9%, from Russia - from 6.8% to 5.9%, while the share of investment from Germany increased from 10.9% to 12.5%, the Netherlands - from 9.7% to 11.1%.

The agency said that the volume of FDI in Ukraine at the beginning of this year amounted to $1,070 per capita compared to $1,280 at the beginning of last year.
