Local self-governing authorities as of February 9 had approved 97% of the 11,488 local budgets for 2015, Ukrainian Minister of Finance Natalie Jaresko has said, at an enlarged meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers in Kyiv.
"335 budgets remain unapproved," she said.
According to her, the approval process was somewhat more active than in previous years due to changes to the Budget Code, as all budgets can now be approved on their own, without waiting for the approval of the highest level budgets.
Jaresko clarified that all budgets have been approved in ten regions, with the least being approved in Luhansk region (71% of budgets are approved), Kherson region (82%), and Ternopil region (87%).
The minister stressed that in all regions the financial resources of local authorities rose.
At the same time, she noted the need to invigorate the activities of Education Ministry and the Ministry of Health on revising sector standards for local budget expenditures.
