Ukraine's coal mining enterprises in January 2015 reduced coal production by 51.2% (by 3.590 million tonnes) compared to January 2014, to 3.421 million tonnes.
A Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry source told Interfax-Ukraine that coking coal production last year fell by 65.9% (1.338 million tonnes), to 691,500 tonnes, steam coal output – by 45.2% (2.251 million tonnes), to 2.729 million tonnes.
Coal producers managed by the ministry reduced production by 68.1% (1.491 million tonnes) in January 2015, to 700,000 tonnes, in particular coking coal production decreased by 81.6% (532,400 tonnes), to 120,400 tonnes, steam coal - by 62.3% (958,900 tonnes), to 579,600 tonnes.
Mines in Donetsk region last month provided produced 1.178 million tonnes of coal (a 62.9% fall from January 2014), Luhansk region – 426,700 tonnes (an 80.2% fall), Dnipropetrovsk region – 1.588 million tonnes (a 11.4% rise), Lviv region – 196,000 tonnes (a 32.7% increase), and Volyn region – 31,900 tonnes (a 9.4% decline).
