Ukraine imports almost 1.1 bcm of gas from Europe in Jan

Ukraine imported around 1.067 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas from Europe in January 2015.

According to tentative data from Eustream, the operator of the Slovak gas transport system, in January 1.004 billion cubic meters of gas was sent to Ukraine via Slovakia.

According to Hungary's FGSZ, Ukraine received 63 million cubic meters of gas via Hungary in January.

No gas was supplied from Poland to Ukraine in January 2015.

The press service of Ukrtransgaz said that gas imports from Russia to Ukraine came to 900 million cubic meters.

As of January 31, 2015, the daily gas supplies from Europe to Ukraine amounted to 42.5 million cubic meters and from Russia – 20.6 million cubic meters.

Ukrtransgaz said that the increase in gas supplies from Europe became possible thanks to the expansion of the capacity of the Slovakian gas transport corridor.

"Thanks to constructive cooperation with our European partners only in five months we've managed to almost double the capacity of the Slovakian route – from 8 bcm to 15 bcm a year. In 2015, up to 60% of Ukraine's needs in imported gas could be satisfied using supplies from Europe. A year ago, it was impossible to supply these volumes of gas from Europe," reads the report, citing Naftogaz Ukrainy Board Chairman Andriy Kobolev.

Ukrtransgaz Head Ihor Prokopiv said that the expansion of the capacity of pipelines using which gas could be imported from Europe allows not only increasing the level of diversification, but also continuing integration of the Ukrainian gas transport system to the European gas market.
