SBU uncovers wasteful spending worth UAH 47 mln by ex-Energoatom officials
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has uncovered wasteful spending and the laundering of UAH 47 million by former officials of the State-run nuclear energy company Energoatom.
"In 2014, the lawbreakers made a deal on the purchase of cable products for the need of Ukrainian nuclear power stations. It was established that the price of the goods bought from a commercial structure considerably exceeded average market prices," reads a statement from the SBU press center posted on Thursday.
The procurements were made due to the implementation of the state strategy for increasing safety at functioning power blocks in nuclear energy stations. "However, the products' quality show their possibly counterfeit origin," SBU said.
Security Service of Ukraine investigators have opened a criminal case on the laundering of large amounts of illegally obtained money. The investigation is ongoing.
