Ukraine resumes gas imports from Hungary

Ukraine resumed imports of natural gas from Hungary at 11.00 Kyiv time on Saturday, the press service of PJSC Ukrtransgaz has said.

According to the company, gas imports in this area are soon to be conducted in the amount of 2.7 million cubic meters per day.

Ukrtransgaz recalled that Ukraine imported 600 million cubic meters of gas from Hungary in 2014.

As reported, Hungary's gas transportation operator FGSZ Ltd in late September 2014 announced the suspension of gas supplies to Ukraine "for technical reasons until further notice."

Naftogaz Ukrainy linked the suspension with a visit to Budapest of Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller, and "gas talks" between Ukraine and Russia with the participation of the EU.

Naftogaz stressed that the halt of gas supply was unexpected and incomprehensible, as there is a contract between Ukrtransgaz and FGSZ which regulates gas flow between Ukraine and Hungary in both directions. At the same time, Naftogaz specified that both operators have no standard interconnection agreement, although Ukrtransgaz has repeatedly asked such a contract be signed, in accordance with the requirements of the Energy Community.
