Kyiv agrees to buy electricity from Russia at Russia's domestic prices - Ukrainian energy ministry

The Ukrainian government is ready to urgently sign an agreement with Russia over Russia's electricity supplies at Russia's internal market prices.

"On Saturday Russian mass media reported, citing Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak, that Russia is ready to supply electricity to Ukraine from the Russian energy market under favorable conditions, i.e. at the internal Russian prices and without any prepayment," the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry said in a statement posted on its official Facebook page on Sunday.

"According to open sources, the price of electricity on Russia's energy market today is around 2,100 rubles (exclusive of VAT) per 1 megawatt, which is around UAH 688 per megawatt at the official exchange rate. This is significantly less than the wholesale prices on the Ukrainian energy market which in December 2014 stands at UAH 941 per megawatt," the ministry said.

According to this statement, and an offer received earlier from Inter RAO to sign a direct agreement with Ukrinterenergo, "the Ukrainian Energy Ministry directly proposes to the Russian Federation Minister of Energy, A. Novak, to urgently sign a sale and purchase agreement under the aforesaid conditions," the Ukrainian energy ministry said.
