EC: EU leaders do not mind providing financial aid to Ukraine
The leaders of the EU member countries at a summit on December 18 discussed the issue of financial assistance for Ukraine.
"This issue was discussed… at the summit. European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker has explained there is a definite need for providing additional funding to Ukraine," spokesman for the European Commission Margaritis Schinas said at a briefing in Brussels on December 19.
However, he did not talk about numbers, saying only that on the eve the EC president explained the needs of Ukraine.
Schinas expressed confidence that the EU leader enabled the Commission to continue work on seeking necessary financial assistance for Kyiv jointly with other donors.
"I would represent the conclusions of the European Council as inspiring, the ball is still rolling. They [the EU leaders] did not say "no," they said: we need to do this, but do correctly, and now these findings allow the Commission, the EU member states and other donors to work together," he said.
