Serious change in EU-Ukraine-Russia gas triangle requires reforms in Ukraine, Europe, says Bruegel center
The serious change in the situation in the EU-Ukraine-Russia gas triangle requires reforms both in Ukraine and Europe, Agata Loskot-Strachota said at Interfax-Ukraine in Kyiv on Thursday, presenting the publication from the Brussels Think Thank Bruegel "Time for redefining gas relations in EU-Ukraine-Russia triangle."
"The redefining of gas relations with Ukraine and Russia requires serious steps inside the EU – defining the joint goals and joint policy. Stable common rules will be required… Ukraine should reform its gas market – this is free access to the gas transport system, the consumer market, the increase in transparency and the implementation of the Third Energy Package," she said.
Loskot-Strachota said that Russia has effective ammunition to influence on the situation in the gas triangle in the short-term outlook, although the EU and Ukraine have long-term tools.
