Russian coal shipments to DTEK, Centrenergo suspended – Energy Minister
Coal shipments from Russia to Ukrainian-based DTEK and PJSC Centrenergo have been suspended, the Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Ministry's press service reported with reference to Minister Yuriy Prodan.
"According to information available to the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry from Centrenergo and DTEK, Russian coal shipments have been suspended," the press service quoted Prodan as saying.
Ukraine is currently facing a deficit in certain types of steam coal (anthracite and semianthracite) because of military operations in Donbas where the coal was produced and where stocks of such coal at state-run coalmines' warehouses alone are now estimated at about 2 million tonnes.
In this connection, Ukraine has started importing coal from Russia and the South African Republic. In particular, privately owned DTEK has already imported about 1.3 million tonnes of coal from Russia for its own needs, while state-controlled Centrenergo announced contracts for the supply of 509,000 tonnes of Russian coal at a price of $80 per tonne (without transportation costs) until the end of the current year.
