Drivers of vehicles often damage level crossing equipment – Ukrzaliznytsia

The violation of traffic rules by vehicle drivers, when passing level crossings, in particular systematic cases of damages to equipment, lead to disruptions in the schedule of trains and the failure of safety systems.

According to the press service of Ukrzaliznytsia, drivers very often hidden from the scene and avoid responsibility, and the railway industry is suffering losses and requires additional funds for the restoration of elements damaged by motorists.

The authority is concerned about multiple cases of traffic rules violations by vehicle drivers, when passing level crossings, which threatens the safety of trains. Since the beginning of 2014, some 62 traffic accidents have occurred on rail tracks and level crossings, as a result 19 persons died. All accidents on level crossings are due to the gross violation of traffic rules by vehicle drivers.
