Three-sided gas talks to take place in Berlin on Oct 21
Three-sided gas talks between Russia, Ukraine and the EU will take place in Berlin on October 21, the Russian Energy Ministry told Interfax.
"Russia has agreed on the date of three-sided talks between Russia, Ukraine and the EU on ensuring the security of gas transit through the territory of Ukraine. The new round of talks will take place in Berlin on October 21," the ministry said.
On Thursday, Vice President of the European Commission for Energy Gunther Oettinger suggested October 21 as the date for the next round of the Ukrainian-Russian gas talks in Berlin.
The previous round of the gas talks between Russia, Ukraine and the EC took place in Berlin on September 26. The parties agreed that Ukraine would pay Gazprom its $3.1 billion debt for gas by the end of the year, and would buy at least 5 billion cubic meters of gas at an interim price of $385 per 1,000 cubic meters of gas. The parties nonetheless failed to agree on a debt repayment schedule.
