Ukraine expecting gas talks to end in compromise, hoping to buy Russian gas at European spot price

Ukraine is expecting Friday's talks between Ukraine, the EU and Russia to end in a compromise, and the country hopes it will be able to purchase Russian gas at European spot prices, Ukrainian Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Yuriy Prodan told journalists before the talks began.

"We would like to reach a compromise today," he said.

Ukraine hopes to agree on a fair market price for gas, Prodan said, "the price that is at European hubs, on European markets."
