Yatseniuk: Ukraine to harvest at least 55 mln tonnes of grain in 2014
Ukraine will harvest at least 55 million tonnes of grain in 2014, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk has said.
"After all, Ukraine is expected to collect 55 million tonnes [of grain] this year," he said at a meeting with Cherkasy region agrarians on Tuesday.
The Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Industry said earlier Ukraine would collect more grain in 2014 than it did in 2013 when the harvest stood at record 63 million tonnes. As of August 15, grain and legume crops had been collected on 9.5 million hectares and 34.7 million tonnes of grain had been threshed.
Yatseniuk said at the meeting in Cherkasy region the annexation of Crimea and the situation in Donetsk and Luhansk regions had reduced Ukraine's aggregate harvest by 15% in 2014.
