Ukraine may launch reforms as part of association agreement with EU before signing its economic part - Tombinski
The economic part of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement will be signed on June 27, but nothing prevents the Ukrainian government from launching economic reforms immediately, Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Jan Tombinski has said.
''The time of signature is symbolic, because it opens the way for ratification by the Ukrainian side, but nothing prevents the Ukrainian government from already starting some changes, because the direction has already been outlined, and there is no need to wait for a formal signature," he said at a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday.
He also noted that in all actions the Ukrainian authorities should be guided by the principle that short-term decisions should be coordinated with long-term plans.
''Even partially some decisions must be made in accordance with the general philosophy and long-term goals," Tombinski said.
The EU and Ukraine are to sign the Association Agreement at a summit in Brussels on June 27.
