As of May 30 Ukraine sows 95% of fields with spring crops
Ukraine as of May 30, 2014 had sown spring grain and leguminous crops, including corn, on 7.705 million hectares or 95% of the target, the Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry has reported.
Corn was sowed on 4.77 million hectares or 97% of the target, buckwheat on 135,000 hectares (82%), and millet on 93,000 hectares (85%).
Rice was sowed on 10,000 hectares or 43% of the forecast.
The ministry also said that sugar beets were sowed on 332,000 hectares (100% of the target), sunflower seeds on 4,46 million hectares (98%) and soybeans on 1.64 million hectares (98%).
The ministry forecasts that spring grain and leguminous crops will be sowed on 8.1 million hectares this year.
