Naftogaz to attract Norway's Wikborg Rein to protect interests in disputes with Gazprom
National Joint-Stock Company Naftogaz Ukrainy plans to attract Wikborg, Rein & Co DA Advokatfirma (Oslo, Norway) as a legal adviser to protect its rights and interests during the settlement of disputes with Russia's Gazprom.
According to a state holding report on the Public Procurement online portal, the cost of the proposal accepted on May 27, 2014 is EUR 1.3 million (excluding VAT).
As reported, the Ukrainian government and Naftogaz have started the procedure of filing a lawsuit in court against Gazprom. Ukraine considers the price of natural gas of about $480 per 1,000 cubic meters set by Gazprom to be politically motivated and unacceptable.
Naftogaz Ukrainy on April 28, 2014 sent a pre-arbitration note to Gazprom with the proposal to resolve disputes through negotiations on the terms of contracts on the sale and purchase of natural gas, signed by the companies in January 2009.
