Poroshenko promises to cleanse Ukraine's gas industry of corruption
Ukraine's gas industry will be cleansed of corruption, Petro Poroshenko, who leads the presidential race in Ukraine, said.
"Gas has been an object of corruption for many years at all levels, including the highest levels of the prime minister and president. It's not going to happen again," he told at a press conference in Kyiv on Monday.
Poroshenko also reiterated that Ukraine will fight for its energy independence.
"We are looking to turn gas from Russia's 'energy club' into a commodity," he said.
Poroshenko pointed out the importance of organizing reserve supplies of gas from the EU to Ukraine and the extraction of non-traditional gas inside the country.
"In two years we will have an LNG terminal in the Black Sea. It's one of the subjects of negotiations with Turkey. We offer them a partnership," he said.
