Field area with spring crops in Ukraine 4.2 times up this year
As of April 1, 2014 Ukraine had sown 2.77 million hectares with spring crops, which is 4.2 times up year-over-year, the State Statistics Service has reported.
The service said that as of April 1, 2014 the sowing campaign was started in all regions, while last year it had only started in 13 regions.
Grain and leguminous crops (without corn) were sowed 1.94 million hectares, which is 3.4 times up year-over-year. Almost 1.5 million hectares was sowed with barley, a rise of 3.2 times year-over-year.
According to the statistics, farms sowed sunflower seeds on around 227,000 hectares and sugar beets on 176,000 hectares.
