US ready to issue $1 bln fiscal aid to Ukraine - German foreign minister
German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier has stated the United States is ready to issue about $1 billion in financial aid to Ukraine.
"I was glad to hear that the United States is also willing to help - about $1 billion, and the European Union is likely to do this just in about the same amount of money," Steinmeier said after a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry in Washington on Thursday.
He also expressed hope that the IMF would be ready "to provide funds from some contingency fund."
"Urgent help is needed," the German official said.
Steinmeier also said he intends on Friday to meet with IMF Director Christine Lagarde.
