Yanukovych demands Azarov lower gas prices for consumers from January 1
Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has demanded that the government soon take decisions on a gradual reduction in gas prices for consumers.
"I would ask you, Mykola Yanovych [Azarov], to take respective decisions in the next few days, along with the national energy commission, regarding a gradual reduction in gas prices for our consumers, so that our consumers and producers can appreciate them from January 1," he said at a meeting of the Council of Regions in Kyiv on Thursday, while addressing Prime Minister Mykola Azarov.
Naftogaz and Gazprom signed a supplement to the 2009 contract for the purchase and sale of gas, valid until the end of 2019, regarding a reduction in the price to $268.5 per 1,000 cubic meters, but this price requires quarterly confirmation.
